Steve Walsh Blog – 15th of December

Firstly I would just like to send my condolences and deepest thoughts to our Legends and ex City goalkeeper Steve Humphries who son, Joe Humphries tragically died whilst jogging a couple of months ago. I attended the funeral on Wednesday in Rothley where ex-players and friends shared his grief.

But now, back to football! Just when we thought a certain 3 points were in the bag and we could stay up there with the front runners, we once again nearly came unstuck against Barnsley. Nigel Pearson will have been disappointed with the result, like we all were. But despite a lacklustre display from everybody we managed to salvage one point. It was a game that started so well, and for the first 20 minutes I thought we were going to see another goal feast at the King Power Stadium! I must say fair play to Barnsley, they dug deep and gave us a fight. It was left to the two lads who were in the press for the wrong reasons after the Derby game to pull us out of the mire. It could have been so different if we hadn’t gifted Barnsley with their first goal with a Schmeichel error! For me, Schmeichel is forgiven as it’s the first real mistake he has made. Until Barnsley he has been outstanding.

LCFC are still in a great position but now have a testing 4 more games this year (3 are away) and they are all tough ones. Hopefully our big squad will show its capability as we get back in contention with the front runners. Good luck Nigel and the lads!
