Steve Walsh Blog – 2nd February 2013

What a week!!

City go from strength to strength and on the 26th January saw an FA Cup dream live on. Although we are subject to a replay against Huddersfield, there is still chance for us to go through and if we win, the draw has given us a home tie against Wigan Athletic.

My Cashfighter event at Leicester Coliseum prevented me from being part of the LCFC Army that went up North for the match. I am really pleased that we are still in there with a fighting chance and our chances have definitely been improved by Nigel Pearson’s luxury squad rotations; this will enable us to keep our fitness at its maximum for the Cup games and league games.

I can understand our fans frustrations about Saturdays match, but we have to differentiate that promotion is vital with the position we are in rather than FA Cup success. I still think there is a great opportunity to progress a long way and who knows how far we could go if we beat Huddersfield. Can we go all the way and make history? Football is a funny game. Let’s not get carried away we haven’t done anything yet and a long way to go. I’m quietly confident about how far we can go and it was good to see Nigel Pearson have a game away from the league and be given an opportunity to experiment with the team. I don’t think there were any outstanding performances from our players, but on our return to our King Power fortress I’m sure we can go on to play Wigan where I started my football career.

Remember a little while ago I told you to keep an eye on Watford?  Well they have sneaked up to 4th in between Hull and Palace. We need to be aware. I am convinced as I said before this top 6 will fight it out for promotion. My prediction is that Wood and Nugent are going to shoot us into the Premier, with Big Wes Morgan and Keane as our rock solid back line that will stop anything that gets in our way. As I write this, Chris Wood has been signed permanently which is a massive boost for the Club.

And it only gets better! Live on Sky against Wolves and a ground out 2 – 1 victory to put us firmly second in the table and looking to seal that automatic promotion spot. All credit to Nigel Pearson who knows how vital it is for the owners to get their reward with promotion to the best league in the world. It was great to re-live some great tussles with Steve Bull and try to forget the “red mist” that used to come down when we took opposite sides on the pitch.

As I said before, I had my Cashfighter Event on Saturday and it was sensational! Better than ‘An Evening with Mike Tyson’ for atmosphere and my team from K Kong delivered again. I can’t wait for my next event, ‘An Evening with Joe Calzaghe’! Half the tables have sold already so if you’re interested you’ll have to be quick.
