What a week for Leicester City! It kick started on Saturday with Forest losing, Derby drawing and us winning! Nigel Pearson’s current tactics seem to be working a treat, and as for team spirit and togetherness on the pitch, I haven’t seen a City team look as promising in a long time! A stubborn Bournemouth team gave everything and fought hard, but were outclassed by Leicester on the day. Personally, I think that Bournemouth have been one of the better teams to visit the King Power so far this season and I’m predicting a mid-table finish for them. Lloyd Dyer’s my man of the match from Saturday, he was rampant down both flanks and put in a proper shift, he terrorised Bournemouth’s right back who I actually think is a good player! In last week’s blog I mentioned that I’d like to see Nugent get a goal, and he was our first scorer! And I’ve got to mention Vardy’s goal, set up nicely by Chris Wood; it was an absolute belter! Well done LCFC! Our win has put us into 2nd place in the table with Burnley at the top. They are flying at the moment, but they’ve got a small squad of about 14 players and no money to spend. I reckon that their lack of players will soon catch up with them.
From a City point of view, we’ve got to learn to put our chances away and kill off teams because we do seem to let teams back into the game after goals. We risk losing points this way, but the team spirit is high at the moment and they’ve become very good at turning the game back around. So far this season has been excellent, could this be the one we have all been waiting for? I can’t pick fault with the team; with Vardy looking sharp and a strong backbone from Schmeichel to Big Wes, then an energetic midfield with pace and skill. It’s a well balanced team and they seem to playing well through the midfield to get the ball to Knockaert and Dyer who then do the rest. We have also got a strong bench which leaves us with great options for substitutions.
After Saturday’s great performance, we came out with a bang in Tuesday’s Cup game against Fulham. During the match I thought that Fulham had more to offer, but Leicester City did not seemed phased by their Premiership opponents. Pearson made a lot of good substitutions and they showed real determination. There were some great goals by Wood, Morgan and Miquel and all within 12 minutes of each other. Then Dyer came in to score the winning goal. It was great to see that we didn’t lose our fight each time Fulham scored. Cracking result! So we steam ahead to the next round, Manchester City at home 17th December.
Happy days for all at LCFC! I hope that Pearson and the lads can keep up this great winning streak. Good luck!
