It’s been a very successful first week for my new blog site Steve Walsh blog.co.uk, so I would like to thank everyone who is reading it and City Communications for their help and support. We’ve got loads of exciting ideas coming up including competitions for match tickets and a meal with me! We’re also hoping to launch a championship prediction league so keep checking back for updates on new content.
I’ll start this week with the game against Shrewsbury. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go and watch the game. Not that I would of been that welcome after my “incident” with David Geddis’ jaw resulting in a eleven match ban! I personally view these friendlies as a way to get into a ‘winning’ mentality but it is also about the player’s fitness and preparing for the start of the Championship season. At the same time Shrewsbury have just been promoted and are on a high so they want to go out and beat everyone.
Still not getting too disheartened by the Shrewsbury game and I was then quite fortunate to be given 4 corporate tickets to watch the Burton Albion game. Thanks to Nicholas Humphreys who is away sunning it in Spain! After a slow start Jeff Schlupp played an excellent one two and really showed his pace to score a good goal. Shortly into the second half David Webb awarded Burton a penalty, I’ve not seen any footage of the incident but the tackle looked clean enough from where I was sitting. With the game at 1-1 City managed to up the ante and finish the game off with goals from Lloyd Dyer and Neill Danns. Overall it was a decent performance and the lads are certainly getting up to top physical condition and showed an improved spirit. Old habits die hard as a former skipper, so I would still like to see more communication going on between the team but it was good to see Nigel Pearson standing on the line shouting out his instructions. I was impressed to see how many City fans turned out, it’s fantastic to see what strong support we have (shame about the Burton lot!).
Not sure what’s happening with Andy King at the moment, he seems to be on the sidelines and I’d be pleased to see him return soon. For me 6 players are standing out already and they are Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan, Neil Danns, Jamie Vardy and David Nugent. Also I should mention Liam Moore – he is progressing nicely for an 18 year old kid and he is another one to watch for the future. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Zak Whitbred and Sean St Ledger, his injury has come as a bit of a blow and De Laet now has an opportunity to show his potential as a centre back.
With the start of the championship just two weeks away I am looking forward to the team having a flying start which they are more than capable of with the squad now in place.
Finally, I would like to say thanks to the teams who turned up for my 5 a side Legends competition on Sunday and congratulations to the winners Active Together!
K Kong Events still has a few remaining tables for our “Evening with Mike Tyson” event on the 11th of October.
I know it’s summer (just about!), but we have now put together a Christmas Party Menu, so for enquires please got to kkongevents.co.uk. Our Web Site is currently under construction but City Communications will be getting a full site online for us in the next couple of weeks!
